Overview:
Welcome to Targeted Instruction for Reading. This class is designed to help you improve your reading and comprehension skills. Together we will look at your current reading skills, identify the gaps in learning, and target those gaps. Reading is such an important part of our everyday lives; whether we are reading for school, work or play it is crucial to our success. By working together to capitalize on strengths and improve weaknesses your skills and abilities as a learner will improve.
Structure: Just like all your other classes, we will be meeting four times per week. On Mondays and Fridays, our 45 minute classes, you will have the opportunity to work on whatever it is that you feel is of the most importance at that time. This will be your Study Skills time and it can be used for things such as organizing your binders, studying for a test or quiz, getting help on an assignment you find difficult or, to read.
On the two days that we meet for 65 minutes plan on spending your time in reading lessons, both group and individual. We will be learning and practicing reading strategies to improve comprehension, as well as targeting individual needs with decoding, vocabulary, spelling and reading fluency. There will always be some time for quiet reading.

Classwork – 30%
Participation – 20%
